1.4m foreigners visited Albania in the first five months of 2018
The number of foreigners visiting Albania jumped up again in May, following the slowdown reported in April.
According to the Institute of Statistics, the number of foreign nationals visiting Albania increased by 10% compared to May last year.
For the first five-month period of the year, Albania was visited by 1.4 million foreign nationals, up 8% compared to the same period year-on-year.
Kosovo continues to dominate regarding the number of visitors from abroad to Albania with 443 thousand in five months.
The figure of visitors from Kosovo has grown slightly in the first five months, while last year it experienced a sharp decline.
The summer season will give a clearer idea if the inflow of tourists from Kosovo has entered a downturn cycle at a time when Albania is attracting more tourists from destinations outside the region.
However, visitors from neighboring countries continue to dominate tourism in Albania, with 75% of the total.
However, visits from neighboring countries largely relate to work or business goals, rather than genuine tourism.
A significant growth in the first months of this year was marked by visitors from Poland, with 34% and from Germany, by 25%.
Meanwhile, the visits of Albanians abroad grew in May, 4% more compared to last year.
In the first five months of the year, Albanians have spent 1.5 million outside the country, up 10% compared to the same period year-on-year.
