100 thousand Albanians will be employed in the tourism sector by 2022: Ministry of Tourism
About 100,000 jobs or 8.5% of the total number of employees in Albania by 2022 are expected to be in the tourism sector.
Tourism is one of the key economic sectors of a country, not only for its important role in the contribution of economic growth but also due to of the chain impact it has in other sectors of the economy.
According to data issued by the Ministry of Tourism and the Environment, the growth of the direct and indirect contribution of tourism to Gross Domestic Product is expected to rise from 26% in 2016 to 29% in 2022, keeping an average annual growth from 2018 to 2022 at the level of 6.1% per annum.
The indirect contribution that this sector is expected to have is in the ratio of 1 to 2.5 compared to the direct contribution, emphasizing its importance in Albania’s economic development.
Employment growth from the level of 85,000 directly employed in the tourism sector or 7.7% of the total number of employees in 2016 is expected to reach the level of 100,000 jobs or 8.5% of the total of the employed by 2022 .
Employment growth is expected to increase from 267,000 employees or 24% of the total number of employed in 2016 to 300,000 or 26% of the total employed by 2022.
