139 businesses have sued Tirana Tax Directory over unfair fines, assessments
Tirana Regional Directory of Taxation is one of the institutions with the highest number of court cases in the country.
There are currently 139 counts from different businesses for unfair estimates and fines.
Some of the lawsuits currently are for recourse to the Supreme Court, while the vast majority are being processed by the Tirana Administrative Court.
They ask the Court to abolish the high fines in millions of Lek, or reimbursement of unjust duties collected from tax authorities.
Companies seek the abolition of fines and interest-rate penalties which often amount to tens of thousands of dollars in the form of tax assessments, fines and interest-rate waivers.
Overall, in 2017, there has been a boom in businesses against the tax administration.
SCAN TV has disclosed official court records, according to which currently there are 426 businesses that have sued the tax administration for unfair tax assessments, fines or interest rates.
