2018 represents a unique opportunity for Albania, Western Balkans: EC spokeswoman Kocijancic for SCAN
Asked by SCAN television over the European Union strategy for the integration of the Western Balkans, the European Commission spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs, Good Neighborly relations, Enlargement and Accession Negotiations Maya Kocijancic responded by saying that “2018 represents a unique opportunity for the Western Balkans in order to make unavoidable steps towards the European path.”
Kocijancic explains that this can only be achieved through key reforms, in justice and rule of law as well as fundamental rights.
“The European Union is clear in the point that it will not compromise on the membership criteria,” Kocijancic underlined for SCAN.
Any serious progress is dependent on the reforms, she stated.
Among other things, Kocijancic emphasizes that the European perspective continues to lead the transformation of the region, which is in the interest of the European Union, something that is more obvious than ever before.
Here, Kocijancic explains that despite the progress there is still a lot of work to be done, especially in terms of reforms.
In order to maintain this positive momentum in the region, the European Commission has decided to address the challenges of each country in detail.
The strategy will be adopted in February, while in April detailed reports will be presented for each country, which will clarify the level of preparation of the countries of the region to join the union, stated Kocijancic for SCAN.
