255 environmental permits issued in 2017
Although the demand for environmental permits is high, the tendency for their approval by Albania’s National Environmental Agency is in decline.
Only for 2017, from January to August, 347 applications for environmental permits were issued, including 255 permits approved by the NEA.
According to sources from the National Environmental Agency, the majority of the permits that have been approved by this special commission are category B, which are less dangerous to the environment, with only 12 of them belong to the highest risk category A.
Meanwhile, as far as tariffs for environmental permits are concerned, they range from 50,000 to 10,000 for category C.
The granting of environmental permits has often fueled the response of environmental experts seeking their avoidance.
There have been many collusions regarding environmental pollution and how to process waste through incinerators.
According to environmental experts, incineration is the latest link foreseen in the National Waste Management Plan until 2025, with intermediate stages, implemented thanks to the EU assistance.
Many cities in Europe and abroad recycle 100% of waste without using incinerators, since there are disturbing negative results as far as the level of pollution is concerned.
