6 new concessions planned for 2021 – 1.8 billion euros for the private sector, PPP Milot-Fier the most expensive
The government has planned to conclude 6 new concession contracts next year, which in total amount to ALL 218 billion or about 1.8 billion euros, almost half of the revenues in the state budget in one year. Thus, out of the six contracts, the one that has the greatest weight and that will cost the most to Albanian taxpayers is the concession of a Milot-Fier road segment on the Adriatic-Ionian highway, the cost of which is estimated at 178 billion ALL or about 1.4 billion euros.
Meanwhile, ALL 20.3 billion is foreseen for the cost of the concession for the basic data infrastructure and supervision of the technical control centers of road vehicles, about ALL 13 billion will be the contract for the construction, operation and maintenance of Vlora airport, as well as ALL 5 billion are intended to increase road safety. The plan includes two other PPPs which capture relatively low values, and include the provision of public key infrastructure service PKI and the improvement of road and recreational infrastructure of residential blocks in some neighborhoods of the city of Elbasan.
