Agriculture in Albania has the bulk of the workforce at 40.2%

The agricultural sector and the sector of services have the highest number of employees in Albania, respectively with 40.2% and 40.4% of employees in total.

The Labor Force Survey data for 2016 shows that 41.2% of employees receive a salary, while 34.9% are self-employed and 23.9% are unpaid workers in a family business.

According to the survey data, the total work force in Albania is 1 million 365 thousand persons, of whom 43.4% are women, while the number of men is at 56.6%.

In 2016 there were 1.157 million people employed, of whom 43.8% female and 56.2% male.

The participation rate in the labor force for the population of the age 15-64 is 66.2% and 15.8% higher for men.

According to INSTAT, the unemployment rate in 2016 fell to 14.2%, the lowest level since 2013.

Based on the Labor Force Survey, the Institute of Statistics estimates that the unemployment rate for the population aged over 15 has fallen by 0.5 percentage points in the last quarter of the year.
