Air transport of passengers increased by 25% in the first nine months of 2017
The very good momentum of air transport of passengers has continued throughout September, at a time when over 267 thousand passengers chose to travel through airlines.
The figure represents an increase of 24.4% compared to the same month year-on-year, while the increase for the 9-month of 2017 has now reached the level of 24.6%.
In total there are about 2 million passengers from January to September, an increase of nearly 400 thousand passengers.
The fact that the number of flights increased by 12.5% in September means that airline companies have gained more by raising the average of passengers for a given flight.
Mother Teresa Airport received 2390 flights this month, or 266 flights more than a year ago.
The increase in airlines operating in Albania has been another factor that contributed to the rapid growth of this sector of transport this year.
For September, 10 airlines were active in the country, 5 more than a year earlier.
However, the main driver of the growth has been the increase in the number of foreign tourists outside the region.
This month has also reported a significant increase in passenger transport through the sea.
These visits, mainly related to Italy, grew by 21.3% compared to last September, while for the first nine months of the year, there are about 210 thousand passengers more.
On the other hand, rail transport continues to experience its crisis, marking a deeper decline month after month.
In September, the number of individuals traveling by train went down by 14.1% at only 3,487 passengers.
