Albania imported ALL 22.7 billion in medicines and preparations in 2017: SCAN revealed
The imported drug market in Albania for 2017 was in the value of over ALL 22.7 billion.
Official sources confirmed to SCAN television this financial figure of imported medicines and preparations during last year.
Both of these items marked with code 3003 and 3004 in official documents also record the financial market value of medicines for 2017.
From this financial market value of medicines, half were purchased from the Compulsory Health Care Fund, which had a fund for reimbursement of medicines worth ALL 10 billion.
Compared to other EU countries, Albania has a small market in terms of the value of drug trading, but despite that, the government has lowered the profit margin for pharmacies.
In 2014 in the country came into force the abolition of 10% VAT on medicines which was reflected in a reduction of prices.
Referring to the financial volume of drugs for last year, with over 22.7 billion leks of drugs imported, the VAT excluded amounts to 4.5 billion ALL.
