Albania-Kosovo energy line is ready, Rama: “Provides energy independence for both countries”
After 6 years of work, the Albania-Kosovo power line with a capacity of 400 kV hours has started operating, giving energy independence to Albania and Kosovo. Present at the event was Prime Minister Edi Rama, who stressed that this act had been blocked by Serbia since 2010, but was realized thanks to Schengen Balkans. For the Prime Minister, this is one of the most important works in the strategic aspect for our 2 countries.
“It took 2014 for the new government, our government, to start implementing this major project and we closed the project in exactly two years in 2016.
This initiative is expected to reduce the price of electricity, as the stock exchange will be managed by Albania and Kosovo. The line has not been ready due to Serbia’s blockade for several years, using free transit lines, where in 2008 alone the country had earned about 65m euros.
