Albania-Slovenia business forum held in Tirana, regional cooperation stressed
Albania is a potential market for Slovenian entrepreneurs, particularly in the fields of environment, tourism and agriculture and agro-processing, as well as IT.
This was stated by Minister of Finance and Economy Arben Ahmetaj during a business forum between the two countries, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tirana.
According to Ahmetaj, Albanian and Slovenian businesses are expected to deepen their cooperation in the field of trade exchanges between the two countries.
After making an expose of the Albanian economy, Minister Ahmetaj acquainted Slovene entrepreneurs with the reforms undertaken by the government, in the administrative, legal and fiscal fields.
“We are taking detailed initiatives to facilitate trade in the region with Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. Unilateral decisions to recognize phytosanitary standards, for example, then there are all non-tariff barriers, a whole set of them, to be unilaterally recognized by our trading partners in the region,” Ahmetaj said.
While the Slovenian Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Zdravko Pocivlsek, praised the importance of economic development in the integration of each country and the region as a whole.
“We intend to deepen the co-operation between our two countries which so far has been modest. There has been cooperation between the Balkan countries, but integration into the European Union is very important in order to create greater economic opportunities. We must move forward in the economic market. Our countries need to move forward to boost economies, open markets, and increase competitiveness. There are many opportunities to increase cooperation between the two countries in different sectors, but this can be achieve by knowing each other better,” Pocivlsek said.
During this forum, AIDA General Director Brisida Shehaj made a presentation of opportunities and sectors where to invest.
About 30 Slovenian companies participated in the business forum, where they subsequently held B2B meetings with Albanian entrepreneurs.
Currently, there are about 60 Slovenian companies or Albanian-Slovenian joint venture companies operating in Albania in fields such as tourism, trade and technical assistance activities.
