Albania strengthens border controls! Passenger Information Unit is set up, companies required to report names
A new structure called the Passenger Information Unit will be set up at the State Police. This unit will consist of approximately 17 police officers. This is foreseen in the amendments being made to the law “On border control”.
Referring to the report, the draft-law is drafted as a necessity for supplementing the package of legal acts aimed at approximation of the European Union legislation in the field of border control and the fight against terrorism and serious crimes.
The directives have laid down obligations for air carriers and Member States, but the manner in which they are implemented is left to the discretion of the latter.
Regarding Albania, it is envisaged that the financial impact of the implementation of the system that will enable the transmission of passenger data, amounts to about ALL 227 million.
The cost of providing this system will be covered by the support of international partners through a cooperation agreement. Specifically, the Ministry of Interior has negotiated and is finalizing the relevant agreement with the US side.
