Albanian asylum seekers in 2019 / Eurostat figures: Albania 11th in the list, 80% went to France, Britain, Ireland
The latest statistics from the European Bureau of Statistics show that after several years on the list of Europe’s top 10 asylum seekers, Albania has finally emerged from this list in 2019, with only one position, in the eleventh place. Albania is the only European country on the list.
The figures show 16,600 Albanian asylum seekers for the first time in Europe in 2019, which translates to 3% of total asylum seekers in Europe last year. According to these data, there are three European countries where Albanians have turned into a problem, despite the fact that Albania is classified as a safe country of origin.
In Ireland, where Albanians are the largest asylum seekers, with about 1,000 individuals. In France, meanwhile, Albanians are second, with about 8,000 asylum applications. France accounts for about 50% of total Albanian asylum seekers in 2019.
Even in Great Britain, Albanians are second on the list, with about 4,000 asylum seekers in total, according to official data released recently by Eurostat.
