Albanian asylum seekers increase / Opening of borders stimulates the trend
June has brought an increase in the number of Albanian asylum seekers in European Union countries. The increase appears to be a reflection of the partial reopening of the borders after extensive isolation. Thus, the data of the European Office for the Support of Immigrants show that, during June, asylum applications for the first time by Albanian citizens were fixed at 228. In the previous month, this figure was fixed at only 66 applications, ie increasing with 245%.
During April, meanwhile, there were about 112 requests. Despite the large increase in demand during June, they still remain far from pre-covid levels. In February this year there were 896 applications, when Covid-19 began to be reflected for the first time in the figures of asylum seekers. Each previous month meanwhile has known figures with over 1 thousand applications.
