Albanian asylum seekers increase slightly – Release of blocking measures boosted the trend, 505 Albanians applied in July
July data show an increase for the second month in a row of asylum applications of Albanians in one of the countries of the European Union. The total it is about 505 applications, which includes not only those who apply for the first time, of which are 366, but also repeaters. The pandemic brought about a significant decline in the trend of asylum seekers, mainly as a result of traffic jams in the vast majority of Europe.
The peak came in May, when only 90 asylum applications were registered by Albanian citizens. June and July, which also coincide with the release of blocking measures, mainly in terms of transport, have led to a significant increase in the number of asylum seekers, although they still remain far from the pre-pandemic levels. The increase during these two months has not brought an increase in the number of Albanians who are waiting for a decision, the doors of Europe. Currently, the latter are around 4680, down for the 8th month in a row, and far from the levels of a year ago, when the figure was fixed at about 13 thousand individuals.
