Albanian tourism – 5.1 million foreign visitors in September
The number of foreign visitors in Albania grew at high rates for September. According to the Institute of Statistics, last month Albania was visited by 664,000 foreign citizens, up 45% compared to the previous year. For the first nine months of the year, Albania was visited by 5.1 million foreign nationals, up by 20% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Visitors from Kosovo dominate the total number of foreigners, with 36% of the total. After a drop last year, this year the number visitors from Kosovo is rising again. For September, this increase was 66%, while for the entire 9-month growth was 23%. Generally, visitors from neighboring countries continue to dominate Albania’s upcoming tourism, with over 60% of the total. However, visits from neighboring countries largely relate to work or business goals, rather than genuine tourism. Significant growth, even this year, has recorded the number of visitors from Poland and Germany, by 38% compared to the nine-month period of last year.
Meanwhile, the visits of Albanians abroad for September grew at slower pace, by 3.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. This is in line with average growth this year. In the first nine months of 2018, Albanians went 4.1 million out of the country, up by 3.3% compared to the same period a year ago.
