Albanian tourism – The number of foreign visitors increased by 16%
Last year Albania was visited by nearly six million foreign nationals. This is the highest number of foreign visitors ever registered in our country. Institute of statistics show that the number of foreign visitors increased by nearly 16% over the past year, an increase nearly twice as high compared to 2017.
After a decline in October and November, foreign visitors’ tourism increased again in December. One third of foreign citizens visiting Albania are Kosovars, while over 60% of the total is from neighboring countries. Last year, the number of visitors from Kosovo increased by 20%, while for December alone, the increase was about 39%. This indicates that the establishment of the crossing tax on the Nation’s Way has not given any noticeable negative effects on the movement of citizens between the two countries.
In terms of well-organized tourism, a significant increase for the second consecutive year recorded the number of visitors from Poland, which increased by 34%. For one year, Albania was visited by some 154,000 Polish citizens. Significant increase in the number of visitors was also registered by Germany and the US. Even the outflow of Albanian nationals abroad last year marked a record figure, with 5.4 million outflows. Compared with 2017, the number of Albanian visits abroad increased by 4.4%.
