Albanians are the happiest with the pandemic?! – The Global Happiness Report 2021 “reveals” the paradox
The “Global Happiness Report 2021”, which covers the years 2018-2020, produces a somewhat paradoxical result for Albania, as Albanians seem to have become happier, although the latest report is significantly focused on 2020, that of the pandemic. In the period 2017-2019, Albania was ranked 75th in the world, accumulating 4883 points, while in the newly published report it is ranked 63rd in the world, with 5365 points.
This improvement has helped to move away from the last place in the region in this classification, “overtaking” Northern Macedonia. Even, in the last report, Albania lags behind Turkey in the rankings, besides Georgia and Armenia, among European countries. This index is compiled on the basis of the assessment that people make of their lives, on a scale of 1-10. The study is conducted in the form of a survey, with about 1 thousand respondents in each country.
The pandemic has forced a change in methodology, eliminating face-to-face interviews, and moving more towards telephone ones, which has happened to our country as well. Globally, Finland, Iceland and Denmark are the happiest countries.
If the ranking and classification were done under normal conditions, so if it were not for the whole focus on the pandemic, Albania would be ranked 93rd in the world, among 149 countries, from 107th in the report. This classification includes many other indicators in the calculation, such as economy, health, generosity, freedom, corruption, etc.
