Albanians’ real wage growth in 2018 at inconsiderable levels: Latest European Commission report
The European Commission projects an increase of salaries at just 2.8% this year in Albania.
The latest data show that in this respect the European Commission has considerably reduced its expectations.
In the previous report, that of November, EC spoke about a 3.3% wage increase. So the deviation from the projections is at the level of 0.5%.
In the case that to the projected wage growth of 2.8%, we would apply the inflation rate, which is now projected at 2.4%, then it results that the real wage growth will be minimal, or inconsiderable.
As for the next year, there news is not good at all, according to the European Commission.
The report for candidate and potential candidate countries writes that in 2019 Albanian wages will increase by only 3.1%, while prices will rise by 2.8%.
So next year the situation will be almost the same with this year if we consider the performance of prices as well.
A few months ago, a prestigious agency, Korn Ferry, classified Albania among countries that would not experience a real wage growth this year.
As far as private consumption is concerned, the European Commission foresees an increase of 2.7% over the course of this year.
At a time when for key macroeconomic indicators and for economic growth in general the European Commission has some good news, on the other hand, as far as households are concerned and ordinary citizens feel it is not very optimistic.
