Albania’s businesses failing to exploit EU’s 80 bln euro R&D programs
Albania is lagging behind regional countries, such as Serbia and Macedonia, in attracting investments for small and medium enterprises in cooperation with the academic world, in the context of the largest research program in the world, amounting to about 80 billion euro in six years.
Although in the past two years there has been an increase of SME participation in EU programs named “COSME” and “Horizon 2020”, the quality of Albanian applicants has excluded them from benefiting grants.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education, specialist Geron Kamberi has addressed the issue with organizations that aim to benefit these EU funds.
On the other hand, representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship explained how businesses can apply online, while adding that the deadline to benefit from EU funds is September 30, 2020.
More than 76 thousand applications have been submitted to European Union programs “COSME” and “Horizon 2020”, while 9 thousand companies have received funds amounting up to 16 billion euro.
Many businesses have benefited from these programs, while a remarking 38 percent of organizations that have received funding were first-time applicants.
