Albania’s HPI at 1.4% in March, below EU average
The decline of inflation in food prices in Albania has prompted the harmonized consumer price index to fall again in March.
According to Instat data, the harmonized index increased by 1.4% in March.
This is the lowest recorded growth since January 2017, when Instati started to calculate it for the first time.
For the second consecutive month, the harmonized index of consumer prices is increased less than the domestic index, which also represents the official inflation rate.
In March, the annual inflation rate was 2%.
At the same time, the rise in the harmonized price index for the first time has fallen below the EU average, which for March was 1.5%.
The food group remains the group with the main impact on the performance of the harmonized price index, also because of the higher specific weight.
For March, the price increase in this group was 2.5%.
Although it remains the group with highest rise of prices, the growth has a downward trend over the last few months, which is experiencing the lowest levels of the aggregate index harmonized.
The consumer price harmonization index includes expenditures made within the territory of the country by Albanian households, as wells as visitor expenditures, unlike the consumer price index, which only covers the private expenses of Albanian households carried out domestically and internationally.
