An average Albanian has to save for 25 years to buy a new car: SCAN calculation
An average Albanian has a salary of 347 euros a month, while according to the World Bank saves on average 27% of income.
This means that an average Albanian saves some 1128 euros in a year.
How many years will an average Albanian need to buy a new car if they invest all their savings?
According to the calculations made by SCAN, the answer is 24.8 years, a quarter of century.
In the European Union, the average price for a new car, according to the latest available data, is fixed at 27987 euros.
So an average Albanian would need savings of a quarter of a century to buy a new car with an average value, not a luxury car.
However, given that in the case of cars luxury is subjective, to be more correct, based on official data on new car prices in the European Union, the calculation was made with different brands.
To buy a Fiat it would take 9 years less, so 15.7 years of savings.
For a Dacia, it would take 11.5 years, for a Renault 18.8 years, while on the other hand an average Albanian has to save 41 years to buy a BMW standard car and 36 years for a Mercedes Benz car.
So, in other words, an Albanian who begins to spare at the age of 18, at best, would be able to buy a new car when they are 43, if they would wait for the savings to accumulate to that figure.
Estimates are made without taking into account alternative sources of income, such as remittances, inheritance, etc.
