August registered a modest increase in cash flow – ATM withdrawals and cash payments, far from pre-pandemic levels
August records a slight increase in cash withdrawal transactions at ATMs in our country. According to the data of the Bank of Albania, during August, about ALL 18 billion were withdrawn from ATM points, from about ALL 17.2 billion that were withdrawals in July. The increase translates to 4.65% compared to the previous month. In July, there was a decrease in transactions in value through ATMs, which contradicts the logic and trend of the summer season, when payment flows should be higher.
August has brought a change in the trend, but not in the rates of June, when ALL 18.8 billion were withdrawn. Card payments in commercial services through POS also increased slightly during August, to ALL 2.17 billion, from about ALL 1.98 billion in July, an increase of 9.6% compared to the previous month. Despite the increase, POS payments still remain far from pre-pandemic levels. January and February of this year record higher payment flows in value. Even transactions through homebanking have seen a slight increase during August.
