Bad loans at 13.5% in April
The ratio of non-performing loans in the first months of this year has fluctuated in a stabilized interval between 13% and 14%.
According to data from Bank of Albania, the ratio of non-performing loans at the end of April was 13.5%, while in March it was 13.4%.
In the first four months of 2018, this indicator has not undergone significant fluctuations.
Compared with the same period of the previous year, the ratio of non-performing loans decreased by about three percentage points.
Although the level of non-performing loans remains high, the efforts of recent years have yielded good results and this indicator has dropped to the levels of 2011.
The decline has come from offsetting the already lost credit balance, as well as from the more efficient use of the restructuring instrument and from a partial improvement in the legal process of collateral execution.
An impact has also produced the improved quality of the new loan and the prudent approach of banks in recent years.
However, e persisting problem is the insufficient quantitative growth of the loan portfolio, which will reduce the specific weight of existing bad loans.
The credit portfolio for the economy has a value of about ALL 546 billion, at almost the same level as a year ago.
Banks’ performance remained positive and return on equity, as a ratio of shareholder profit, was at 12.4% in April.
Most banks are reporting profits, but, however, profitability indicators show significant differences among different banks.
