Banking system profit went up to ALL 7.6b for five-month period 2018

The financial result of the Albanian banking system reported another growth in May.

According to unofficial data from the Albanian Association of Banks, the financial performance of the five-month period was positive in the amount of ALL 7.6 billion.

The financial result has increased by about ALL 1.5 billion in May, but it is significantly lower compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the five-month period of the previous year the profit of the system was ALL 8.9 billion.

However, last year the result was heavily influenced by the decrease in provisions for non-performing loans and partly by their recover.

This year, non-performing loans appear more stable as it is the case with the effect of provisions on financial results.

Bank of Albania’s statistics showed that the ratio of non-performing loans at the end of May fell to 13.3%, while in the first half of this year it remained close to these levels.

Interest income during this year is close to the previous year.

However, the fact remains that the system’s profits are concentrated especially on a small number of banks, especially those with high market share.

For most of the banks, profits are quite limited.
