Banking system reported ALL 10.7b in lost loans in 2017
Last year, the Albanian banking system reported about ALL 10.7 billion in lost loans.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, the exclusion from balance sheets of loans classified as lost for more than three years continued in significant proportions also last year, being an important factor in reducing the ratio of non-performing loans.
When adding the loans written off in previous years, for the last three years this figure affects about ALL 48 billion or about EUR 370 million.
This figure represents, to a large extent, the impact of the crisis on the Albanian banking system and, in particular, the large-scale losses in the corporate segment.
But what was observed over the past year was the increase in lending restructuring, which made this category have a significant contribution to reducing the ratio of non-performing loans.
Last year, banks restructured ALL 16.2 billion, but, however, not all were bad loans.
Last year, the banking system managed to lower its non-performing loans ratio to 13.2%, to a low level in the last seven years.
Even in value, the portfolio of non-performing loans declined sharply to about 80 billion ALL, 30% less compared to the end of 2016.
