Banks Post-crisis – Sejko: They are supporting the recovery. WB: Liquid and well-capitalized, despite the pandemic
In his speech on the monetary decision-making of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, Governor Sejko analyzed the situation of the financial markets in the country and the reaction of the banking sector to the crisis.
“Reflecting these measures, the Albanian financial markets have operated smoothly. Interest rates continue to remain near historical minimums, while the exchange rate appears stable. In particular, the banking sector has continued to supply liquidity to businesses and households in need. Credit to the private sector experienced an average annual growth of 6.4% in July-August, reflecting a good transmission of economic policy stimulus, sound balance sheet and the banking sector’s willingness to contribute to the shock.”
On the other hand, in the latest publication for Europe and Central Asia, the World Bank, in the lines dedicated to Albania, underlines that: “despite the impact of covid-19, the banking sector remains liquid and well-capitalized, supported by the measures taken by the central bank.
