Businesses used less energy – INSTAT: Household consumption increased, production dominated by public HPPs
Electricity consumption by businesses and other non-household consumers during 2020 decreased by 6.7% compared to a year ago, reflecting the closure of activities as a result of COVID-19. The data are reported by the Institute of Statistics in the country, while the situation with household consumers is different, where energy use increased by 7.8%, compared to 2019.
Meanwhile, during the last year, energy production increased by 2.1%, where public hydropower plants produced 58.2% of the total, private and concession hydropower plants 41.2%, while 0.6% was produced by photovoltaic plants. Energy imports also increased by 2%, while during 2020 the gross energy export increased by 25% compared to a year ago. According to the same data, network losses have reached the value of 1,632 GWh from 1,653 GWh, thus marking a decrease of 1.3%.
Transmission losses have increased by 2.1% and the share of total network losses is 10.6%. Distribution losses account for a larger share, about 89.4% of network losses and have decreased by 1.7%, compared to 2019. Earlier, the Energy Regulatory Authority reported a decrease in the level of receipts by 2.6% during the year left behind, compared to 2019, recording at 95.8%, from 98.4% a year earlier.
