Changes in Rinas airport – Balluku: 99 million euros investment, reduction of air ticket prices
Parliament has overturned the decree of President Ilir Meta, which returned for reconsideration the changes in the concession of Rinas airport, paving the way for investments that will change its category, as well as reducing passenger fares. During the discussion in the Assembly, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku said that negotiations for the amendment of this contract have started since January 2020, and described the success of the new agreement.
Balluku also spoke about the progress of 2 other projects and more specifically about the airport of Kukes and Vlora.
The Rinas airport concession contract expired in 2022, but the government predicted a 12-year extension, linking it to the situation created by COVID-19 in the aviation industry, which according to Eurocontrol will take 5-10 years to return. Meanwhile, according to the Albanian authorities, the new forecasts are expected to reduce the price of air tickets in the country.
