Construction industry on the rise in 2017: BoA
The increase of the approved number of construction permits and the positive contribution of public investments signal a continuation of the positive trend of Albania’s construction sector in the second quarter of 2017.
Also, the confidence indicator and the rate of capacity utilization in construction suggest that the performance of the construction sector stands in the upward trend.
This is the analysis that the Bank of Albania made of the sector, adding that it accelerated the upward trend in the first quarter of 2017.
The added value of the sector expanded at a high annual rate, around 14.1%, following positive rates of the previous quarter, the BoA’s report states.
Sector developments were mainly influenced by the realization of engineering works and the category of new constructions.
The increase in the anticipating indicators of the approximate number and value of construction permits was mainly influenced by the category of buildings for residential purposes.
According to the analysis of BoA specialists, during this period there has been an increase in the sale of apartments, as the decline of the euro in the domestic market has affected the reduction of housing prices.
It is also estimated that the continuation of the project for the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and the growth of foreign direct investment inflows are estimated to have had a positive effect on the performance of the construction sector.
