COVID-19 “hits” the movements of citizens – In October, 46.7% less foreigners entered compared to last year
Blocking movements as a result of restrictive measures taken by states to curb the spread of COVID-19 has significantly reduced the entry of foreign nationals into our country. According to the data of the Institute of Statistics, in October 206,439 citizens entered the Albanian territory, marking a decrease of 46.7%. Meanwhile, for the 10-month period, a total of 2,328,641 foreigners visited our country or 60.2% less compared to the same period of 2019.
During the ten months of 2020, Kosovo has the lowest decrease in the number of citizens entering Albania by 41.6%, while the largest decrease was in Spain by 90.7%, compared to the same period of 2019. The decrease of The number of foreign visitors directly impacts tourism, bringing significant consequences to the Albanian economy due to the importance of this sector for the country. Meanwhile, regarding the entry of Albanian and foreign citizens in the Albanian territory, in October, they resulted in a decrease of 44.4%.
Departures of Albanian and foreign citizens from the Albanian territory also decreased by 45.4% during October. The outflow of Albanian citizens fell by 44.6%, while that of foreign citizens by 46.3%, compared to October 2019. For the period January-October, the number of Albanian citizens fell by 49.9%, compared to the same period a year ago.
