Covid-19 to ‘erase’ 1.5% of our GDP / ‘Vienna Institute’ publishes projections: Growth will fall by 1.5%, no recession
Covid-19 will wipe out 1.5% of our country’s GDP, predicts the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, which is the first prestigious international institution to publish growth figures after the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe.
This rate, ie 1.5% of GDP, translated into monetary value, is fixed at around € 200 million.
The Vienna Institute of International Economic Studies’ forecast is for all Eastern European countries, indicating that the economic impact will be most severe since the global financial crisis of 2008.
Projections speak of a growth rate of the Albanian economy this year at just 1.7%, down from the 3.2% predicted before the Covid-19 explosion in the heart of Europe.
The impact of the pandemic on the Albanian economy is estimated at similar levels to other countries in the region, whose projections are also downward.
Even for Kosovo, the damage is estimated at 1.5% of economic growth. Regardless of the figures, between the rows the Vienna Institute says countries like Albania, dependent on tourism, will be the ones that will feel the virus most in their economies.
However, we are still in the early forecasts and balances of this crisis that has swept every corner of the globe.
