COVID crisis in the media – 15 of them received 2 million euros of sovereign loans to pay over 1 thousand employees
The COVID-19 pandemic did not leave untouched even the media sector in our country, where the business crisis is reflected in less advertising and consequently in less revenue. Thus many of the media executives in the country have found themselves in difficulty in paying their staff and have used the sovereign guarantee of the government to take loans with subsidized interest in order to be able to pay employees and not cut jobs.
Thus, according to the official data of the Ministry of Finance, 15 media outlets, have received a total credit value of about 2 million euros, thus paying salaries for 1396 employees during the pandemic period.
In total, 504 entities have benefited from the sovereign guarantee 1 with a value of ALL 6 billion, thus paying salaries for about 51 thousand employees. This instrument was dedicated only to employees’ salaries and a total of ALL 11 billion was made available.
