Deadly accidents in Albania twice as high as the EU average
Official data from the Institute of Statistics show that 94 victims of road accidents for every 1 million inhabitants were reported in Albania in 2016.
This rate speaks of an alarming situation if we compare it with the European Union countries.
Compared to the 28 European Union countries, Albania ranks after Bulgaria and Romania, with 99 and 97 casualties per 1 million inhabitants, reported only in road accidents.
Across the European Union, the average is fixed at 50 victims per 1 million people.
So with a figure almost twice as high as the EU average, Albania is talking about an alarming situation.
INSTAT’s updated information, meanwhile, reveal a similar situation this year, but with a slight decrease in the number of victims, which means that Albania will continue to remain on top of the list of countries that are causing more road casualties.
Sweden reports the lowest number of road victims per 1 million inhabitants, 27 per year.
