DP MP Gurakuqi: Shkodra suffering from unfair, politically-oriented allocation of public funds
One day before the parliamentary session discussing the budget and the fiscal package, Democratic Party MP Romeo Gurakuqi explained at the SCAN TV program Argument the imbalances in the distribution of state funds to the municipalities.
MP Gurakuqi specifically addressed the funds set aside for Shkodra, citing disparities in both the region’s development fund and unconditional transfer.
“The municipality of Shkodra in 2016 received 0.5% of the funds from the government, in 2017 0.1%. The Albanian Fund of Regions in 2015-2016 has allocated to Shkodra just 1%, and just 2% of the fund for irrigation and drain. The RDF in 2017 granted Shkodra 6.7%, Lezha 3.5%, Dibra 2.6%, Kukës 0.5%, Korca 16%, Fier 14.80%, Durrës 9%, Elbasan 8%, Vlora 7.5%,” stated the DP MP.
With regard to these unbalanced funds between the major cities of Albania, MP Gurakuqi has also articulated both the reasons for the political decisions and the stances of the government ministers.
“Government ministers are inclined not to look at the projects that the municipalities present, but they just consider small defects, and they allocate these funds, however small, whereever they have political interests,” DP MP Gurakuqi said.
