DP’s Basha meets IMF mission: High taxes, bureaucracy and corruption hindering the economy
The of the International Monetary Fund mission for Albania Anita Thuludhar and IMF permanent representative in Tirana Jens Reinke held a meeting with opposition leader Lulzim Basha.
During this meeting they expressed their praise of the role of the opposition in oversight and control of the government over the past four years.
While the opposition leader has presented all the economic issues that the country is facing.
According to Basha, the start of this legislature has been accompanied by concerns about the economic situation where there is a high level of debt, at 71% of GDP, and low levels of revenue collection, which, according to him, are affecting all other economic indicators.
Unemployment among youth continues to be high, and business has seen a shrinking in its activity by not making decisions for enlargement.
This, coupled with a very low level of foreign investment, has prompted the private sector to be no longer a highly demanded employer.
In this climate comes the campaign against informality of the government which in the past has brought great concerns to businesses.
Another concern is the project of 1 billion euros concessions that the government has launched, which will result in the concentration of public funds in fewer hands, but what is even more disturbing is the impact on public debt.
In these conditions, the Democratic Party will support another program with the IMF where control is needed to be even stronger because of the economic and fiscal balances with the corruptive concession project.
