EBRD urges improvements in business climate
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development urged the Albanian government to improve the business climate and focus on investment in infrastructure and energy.
During the regular meeting of the Investment Council, which discussed the legal framework for investments, EBRD Vice President Alain Pilloux stressed that the institution wants to look at how things are done and in parallel will support the growth of the private sector in Albania.
“We want things to be done. Continue to improve your business climate. It is very important to promote investment, ownership rights. We need to support the growth of the private sector in the Albanian economy by relying on tourism and agro tourism. We should encourage banks to take more risks and to grant loans in local currency. We will continue to support all sectors of the economy. Continue to work in the infrastructure and energy sector,” said Alain Pilloux, EBRD Vice-President, said.
As the head of the Investment Council, Minister of Finance and Economy Arben Ahmetaj stressed that Albania has a favorable business climate and foreign direct investments in the first three months of this year amounted to about 284 million euros, with an annual growth of 62 percent, while stressing that he is optimistic about the performance over the remainder of the year.
Among other things, Ahmetaj also recalled the facilities for businesses in several sectors, included in the fiscal package, which he said would be approved at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers.
