Effects of the Eurobond on our economy – Experts: It is crucial how it will be used
The government has borrowed 650m euros in foreign markets through the issuance of a new Eurobond with an interest rate of 3.62 per cent and a 7-year maturity. In an interview with TV SCAN, economics experts Adrian Civici and Selami Xhepa say the new debt terms are favorable to the situation in the country and the financial markets, and that this was a forced move by the government to revive the economy. But as they analyze the effects, experts say the risk is rising debt, beyond any prediction.
On the other hand, experts say that since 400 million euros will be used for the recovery of the economy, if this debt is successfully managed and goes where the greatest needs are, there will be positive effects on the economy.
This is the highest amount of debt the government has borrowed in international markets, where 250m euros are expected to go to refinancing the old bond. In 2018, the government managed to secure a loan of 500m euros.
