Energy balance for 2020 – Production was dominated by public HPPs, 2.6% less bills were paid

About 5.3 million mwh of energy were produced during 2020, while the Drin Cascade hydropower plants dominated production with 58.5% of the total amount. The data differ in relation to the first 6 months of the year, where the production was realized in the amount of 52% by private and concession HPPs, but during the following months the Albanian Electricity Corporation has increased the production, changing the reports.

According to data reported by the Energy Regulatory Authority, public hydropower plants produced about 2.2 million mwh of energy, while in March this year began production and hydropower plant of Moglica, generating for the 10-month period 160 thousand mwh of energy or 3% of totalit. At the same time, the production of energy from photovoltaic power plants has continued, although the amount generated is extremely low in relation to the energy produced from hydro sources.

In total, these plants produced 32,265 mwh of energy, indicating that the diversification of energy production sources is still far away, as long as the 2 projects for the construction of photovoltaic parks in Karavasta and Spitalla have not started yet. Meanwhile, the level of losses in the distribution network for the 12-month period reached 21.48%, marking a slight improvement compared to the same period last year, where losses were estimated at 21.79%. The level of receipts fell by 2.6% during the year we left behind, compared to 2019, registering at 95.8%, from 98.4% a year earlier.
