For innovation, we hold the weakest position in Europe – Albania loses points in the Global Index 2020
Albania has maintained the same positions in the Global Innovation Index, published annually by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as well as Insead. Despite not losing places in the rankings, our country has lost in scoring. This year’s index ranks our 83rd country in the world among 131 countries, the same as in the previous two reports. Our country is last in Europe and the region in this ranking.
Our country’s ranking at the bottom of Europe clearly speaks to an economy that has not yet embraced technology. The overall index is based on 7 sub-indicators, where the weakest performance is recorded in that of knowledge and technological production, where we rank 119th in the world, among 131 different economies. The best performance meanwhile comes from the sub-indicator that refers to institutions, where we rank 56th in the world.
In the infrastructure sub-indicator we are ranked 65th and in that of market sophistication, the 70th. In terms of business sophistication, meanwhile, Albania ranks 73rd in the world, below the overall ranking. In the world, Switzerland ranks first.
