Forward processing industry leads Albania’s foreign trade, Italy continues to be main partner
The latest data from the Institute of Statistics on Foreign Trade show that Albania’s dependence on forward processing industry continues the upward trend.
Figures show that, for the 8 months of this year, the category of textiles and footwear, which in our country represents exclusively the forward processing industry industry, accounts for 44% of Albania’s total exports.
This rate is the same as in the previous year.
In 2015, this group-size category accounted for only 37% of total exports, and in 2014 only 34%, which confirms the growing trend.
But, Albanian exports are not only dependent on this group of goods category, but are also dependent on a particular country, Italy.
This is not so because of geographical proximity, but because of Italy’s huge presence in this kind of industry in our country.
In August, 74.6% of Albanian exports pertaining to the category of textiles and footwear were towards Italy.
So, from ALL 7.1 billion of goods, 5.3 billion were exported to Italy, who are our main trading partner.
Even in this regard, the tendency in recent years is clear.
In 2016, textiles and shoes accounted for only 63% of total exports to Italy, in 2015 59%, in 2014 54%. in 2013 52%, and for the first eight months of this year, this rate is fixed at 64%.
The data speak clearly about the dependence of trade on the forward processing industry and Italy as the number one investor in the industry.
Given the thousands of jobs this industry has created, then the weight in the total economy gets even bigger.
