Global Hunger Index 2017: Albania holds last spot in Europe, the Balkans
Albania in the eyes of the world and Europe is a country with a persisting problem of hunger, and it is also the most problematic country on the continent in this regard.
These findings appear in the report of the International Institute of Food Policy and Research that has recently published its “Hunger Index 2017.
The report takes into consideration 119 countries, and Albania is one of the 10 European countries examined.
Among these 10 European countries, Albania is ranked last, and is also the last in the region, trailing countries like Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro or Serbia.
This fact is illustrated best by the map, where the light green color shows a moderate level of hunger, while the deep green indicates a low level of hunger.
In this year’s report, Albania ranks 48th in the world, and although it remains the last in Europe, among third world countries, the country has marked an improvement by five positions compared to last year’s ranking, namely in the 53rd spot.
Part of the report are not very developed economies, while the overwhelming majority is held by countries that are differently classified as the third world.
Regardless of the rankings, the report shows that, compared to 2008, significant progress has been made.
With an indexation where the highest rate shows a weaker performance, Albania in 2017 collected 11.1 points from the 11.8 points it accumulated in 2016.
