IMF report revises Albania’s economy in decline
Although a week ago the International Monetary Fund in the closing statement of the visit in Albania reviewed the positive economic growth throughout this year, these projections have not been reflected in the global economy projections newly published by the institution.
The International Monetary Fund speaks again of an economic growth at 3.7% this year, and not 3.9% as it stated a week earlier.
However, this may also be the effect of a lack of updating rather than cutting of the projections.
IMF warnings in the statement for Albania are also reflected in the latest report on the global economy.
Over the coming years, economic growth will be weaker than previously expected.
At least this is what the figures say, and all this by 2022.
For the next year, the projections have dropped to 3.7% from 4.1% projected in the April report.
Even for 2022, the projections have been revised downward, which means that in the long run, the Albanian economy will be weaker than expected.
These projections also undermine government hopes for a growth rate of over 5%.
The Albanian economy, according to the IMF, is heading in the opposite direction when compared to the regional ones.
For the region as a whole, the institution has revised the economic growth, both for the current and next year, as well as for 2022.
Among the countries of the region, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s economy received more positive grades.
Despite the revision of projections, according to the International Monetary Fund Albania’s economy will continue to be until 2022 the economy with the largest growth in the region, along with Kosovo.
There is a slight pessimism in projections even as far as inflation performance is concerned.
On the other hand, the projections over the current account deficit have also been revised in negative territory starting from the current year until 2022.
