Inflation drops to 1.1% during December. But fruits and vegetables are 5.9% and 3.9% more expensive than the previous year
During December, inflation dropped to 1.1%, from 1.6% in the previous month, according to the latest data from the Institute of Statistics (Instat). According to these data, during the last month of the year, consumer prices increased by 0.3% compared to the previous month. Throughout 2020, the year of the pandemic, prices increased by 1.6%, from 1.4% the previous year. Meanwhile, during December, the largest contribution to price increases, with 0.95 percentage points was given by the group “food and non-alcoholic beverages”, followed by the group “Rent, water, fuel and energy”, by 0.24 percentage points. The groups “transport”, “clothing and footwear” and “health” on the other hand, have made a negative contribution to rising prices during December.
