Inflation drops to 1.6% – The price increase softens, but food, 4.1% more expensive than last year
The inflation rate dropped to 1.6% in November this year, from 2% in October, according to official figures from the Institute of Statistics. In monthly terms meanwhile, consumer prices have fallen by 0.5% the data show. However, the 1.6% increase in prices, compared to the same period a year ago, is driven by the category of food and non-alcoholic beverages, increasing by 3.9% in annual terms. Only food prices, meanwhile, are recorded to increase by 4.1% compared to November 2019. Despite the fact that food prices are declining by 1.4% compared to October of this year, this trend is seasonal. Figures show that price increases continue, despite the country being in a crisis, even consumption. Compared to November last year meanwhile, vegetable and fruit prices are over 13% and over 4% saltier, respectively.
