Inflation reaches 2% – Vegetables rise in price by 18.5% in a year, fruits by 11.5%

Inflation has risen to 2% in October, according to the latest data from the Institute of Statistics, from 1.5% in September this year, and from 1.3% in October a year ago. The data thus signal a further increase in consumer prices in our country, at a time when the economy is in recession. The category of food and non-alcoholic beverages continues to be the “locomotive” of price increases, affecting the inflation rate by 1.81 percentage points, followed by the group rent, water, fuel and energy by 0.32 percentage points. Only the group of clothes and shoes, health as well as entertainment with culture have given a negative effect on price increases.
If we look at the detailed data of the Institute of Statistics on the increase of prices of each category in the meantime, we notice that, compared to a year ago, food prices have increased by 5.2%. Drastic price increases, compared to October last year, have experienced the categories of vegetables by 18.5% and fruits by 11.5%. even in the category of vegetables, the increase is significant even compared to September, as they have risen in price by 5.8% in just one month. Other items meanwhile have significantly smaller fluctuations, both in monthly and annual terms, official data show. The biggest drop in prices compared to a year ago is recorded by transport, by -4.3%.
