Internet banking transactions reach record level of 2.6m

Home banking transactions in Albania have marked a record value for the past year.

According to data of the Bank of Albania, the total amount of internet or telephone payments reached ALL 551 billion, up 60% compared to 2016.

Growth was also significant in the number of transactions, reaching 2.6 million, up 26% compared to 2016.

Increasing modernization of banking services and the growing use of technologies is helping the spread of remote banking services.

The vast majority of remote banking transactions are made through internet banking.

The number of bank accounts related to internet banking has reached the figure of 322 thousand.

According to data from Bank of Albania, the use of internet banking during 2017 increased by 54%.

The use of internet banking has increased for the ninth consecutive year, while about 88% of the accounts connected to the internet belong to individuals.

Based on the number of accounts connected to the internet, it is estimated that in Albania distance payment services are used by around 11% of the population, a significant increase from the 7% level of 2016.
