Investment funds returned to growth trend in first quarter of 2017
The market of investment funds in Albania returned to growth in the first quarter of 2017.
According to data from the Financial Supervisory Authority, the total assets at the end of 2016 amounted to ALL 70.8 billion, about 8.3% more compared with the last quarter of 2016.
The growth of the market during the first quarter was distributed among different instruments, but a significant increase was reported by investment in companies’ bonds.
This investment instrument is primarily associated with investments in euro outside the country, considering that the Albanian market does not offer much investment options in foreign currency.
Due to the fact that the interest rates of deposits are almost at zero level, many investors have sought more satisfactory returns through the investment fund in euro administered by Raiffeisen Invest.
Meanwhile, the Albanian government bonds, which have historically been the main instrument for Albanian investment funds, reported a modest increase in the first quarter of 2017.
At the end of March, the number of members of investment funds amounted to over 31 thousand, increasing by 6.7% compared with the end of last year.
Currently, the market of investment funds is operated by three companies, Raiffeisen Prestige, Raiffeisen Invest and Credins Premium.
Starting from 2015, the growth rates of investment funds appear more limited, and this is related, in part, to the strengthening of the supervisory framework for these institutions by the Financial Supervision Authority.
