It is official / Eurovision 2020 will not take place. What will happen to this year’s contestants?
The outbreak of coronavirus has had its effects in many ways, as well as in many events. It has recently been decided that there will be no Eurovision this year, in which Albania was represented by singer Arilena Ara, with the song “Shaj”.
The event was to take place in Rotterdam on 16 May. “We, like millions of you around the world, are extremely sad that it cannot take place in May,” the organizers said in an official statement. Even before, the Dutch government had banned large public gatherings to try to stop the spread of coronavirus.
“The health of artists, staff, fans and visitors, as well as the situation in the Netherlands, Europe and the world, is at the heart of this decision,” the Eurovision team said. For 64 years, Eurovision has been bringing people together across Europe. Organizers have said they are holding talks on how it will be organized next year.
It is not yet known if this year’s winners or contestants, including Arilena Ara, will be in attendance next year. Eurovision organizers told the BBC that the matter would be discussed and that such a decision would be communicated in a second moment.
