Labor export reached the level of 296 mln euro in 2016
The forward processing industry brought to the Albanian economy some 296 million euros last year.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, revenue from forward processing services for foreign commissioning in 2016 grew by 23%.
Cheap labor provides Albania income that amount around to 3% of the gross domestic product.
In 2016, cheap labor was still the main competitive advantage of the Albanian economy in relation to exports.
Although exports of clothing and footwear group were worth about 770 million euros, less than half of this amount was realistically a value added in the economy as payment for forward processing of raw materials to a finished product.
The extractive industry sector fell from the throne, as a result of the price crisis in international markets.
Forward processing business, on the other hand, is experiencing a new growth and is resisting the crisis very well, as well as competition from other countries.
The forwarsd processing industry has also entered the fish processing industry and even the manufacture of industrial equipment and instruments, such as electric motors.
According to INSTAT, only the clothing and footwear sector has about 30 thousand employees, but, however, according to entrepreneurs, the real number of employees is much higher.
